The Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) plays a pivotal role in promoting standardization and fostering safety in various industries across Türkiye, with a special focus on the crucial nuclear energy sector. Founded in 1960 with Law No 132, TSE serves as the sole authorized body responsible for setting and executing standards, while ensuring financial and administrative independence in all its units. With a rich legacy of over six decades, TSE has been at the forefront of developing and implementing industry benchmarks, driving progress, and enhancing the quality of products and services in the nation.
The field of nuclear energy demands the highest level of precision, safety, and accountability. Standardization becomes the bedrock of the nuclear energy sector, ensuring the seamless functioning of equipment, processes, and practices while safeguarding the well-being of people and the environment.
TSE, takes immense pride in its primary responsibility of developing and promoting standards in diverse industries, including nuclear energy. Through rigorous research, collaboration with experts, and engagement with stakeholders, TSE strive to create a comprehensive framework that addresses the ever-evolving challenges of the nuclear energy sector.
One of the key aspects of TSE’s role is the meticulous inspection of manufacturing, construction, and assembly activities related to nuclear power plants. The scrutiny extends to both on-site and off-site activities, where it carefully evaluate supplier competence and experience, material suitability, activity complexity, and the requisite expertise. By doing so, TSE ensure that all aspects of nuclear energy implementation meet the highest safety standards, leaving no room for compromise.
TSE is authorized by Akkuyu Nükleer AŞ as the 'Material Approval Organization' in Türkiye since 7th January 2020, underscoring the pivotal role in ensuring the highest quality and safety standards in the nuclear industry. TSE commitment to the advancement of nuclear energy extends beyond setting standards – It actively support local manufacturers in meeting the stringent requirements of the sector. Through its rigorous certification process, TSE have empowered domestic suppliers, facilitating the supply of $200 million worth of local products to the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) project.
The successful supply of locally certified products demonstrates the capability and competence of Turkish manufacturers, earning them a well-deserved place in a project of such strategic significance.
