As India is growing, so is its energy demand with increased thrust on clean energy transition, sustainability and reliability. Clean energy demand will further go up as decarbonization drive picks up for transportation/e-mobility, Clean H2 generation and application industries, commercial sector, industrial heating and district cooling systems. Nuclear power is well poised to cater to the clean and reliable energy requirement of the country and hence is on top of the agenda of the government.
India's nuclear market in numbers:
24 reactors of 8.18 GWe in installed capacity
9 reactors of 7.3 GWe capacity under construction
12 reactors of 8 GWe capacity under pre-project activities
18 reactors of 24 GWe capacity have received in-principle approval by the Government of India
100 GW nuclear capacity target by India by 2047
A business potential of USD 125 Billion has been estimated for the projects in pipeline. In addition, India too has a fleet of over 205 GWe coal based power units, which would be progressively replaced by clean energy means such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). A coal based capacity of 13.8 GWe has already been retired and looking out for replacement. It is estimated to have a business potential of over USD 550 Billion. Moreover, with nuclear assessed to play a major role in applications such as clean hydrogen generation, industrial heating, district cooling, desalination etc, India is gearing up for a major expansion in nuclear sector through development and adoption SMRs and other advanced reactor technologies.
Since 2017, INBP is a melting pot wherein different Indian suppliers and global companies join in with the nuclear leadership of the country and industry experts to discuss debate and share their ideas, vision and insights on the industry developments, policy initiatives, key business drivers, market enablers, technological advancements, critical aspects of supply chain and scale-up of nuclear industry in the country.
Helmed by an Advisory Board, INBP-2024 will focus on new developments, opportunities and challenges which are of current relevance in the Indian nuclear market. It’s a platform for networking, connecting to the key stakeholders, B2B meetings, assessing partnerships, and showcasing your brand, solutions, innovations, and expertise to the industry to enable a sustainable clean energy transition.
